“Rome Versus The Bible. After the Church had fallen from its apostolic purity of life and doctrine, it found that, where the Bible was read by the common people, they lost faith in the Church and opposed her worship as a species of idolatry. This was particularly true of the Waldenses, who had retained the Bible in their native language hundreds of years before the Reformation, and had copied and spread its pages over Catholic Christendom, wherever their missionaries traveled. It was natural, therefore, that the Roman Church, instead of supplying the common people with the Scriptures in their native tongue, should oppose this.

“Cardinal Merry del Val says that on account of the activity of the Waldenses, and later of the Protestants, in spreading the Scriptures in the native language of the people, ‘the Pontiffs and the Councils were obliged on more than one occasion to control and sometimes even forbid the use of the Bible in the vernacular.’     Read more

Claims that the head of Christ’s church on earth is a visible man, not the Holy Spirit

“It is one of the leading doctrines of Romanism that the pope is the visible head of the universal church of Christ, invested with supreme authority over bishops and pastors in all parts of the world. More than this, the pope has been given the very titles of Deity. He has been styled ‘the Lord God the Pope’ [See Appendix], and has been declared infallible. He demands the homage [worship and veneration] of all men. The same claim urged by Satan in the wilderness of temptation, is still urged by him through the Church of Rome, and vast numbers are ready to yield him homage.

“But those who fear and reverence God meet this Heaven-daring assumption of Christ met the solicitations of the wily foe: ‘Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.’ Luke 4: 8. God has never given a hint in His word that He has appointed any man to be the head of the church. The doctrine of papal supremacy is directly opposed to the teachings of the Scriptures. The pope can have no power over Christ’s church except by usurpation.”- Ibid. Read more

The ‘Man of Sin’ of Bible Prophecy and his activities and career – Part I

INTRODUCTION

The Son of God and the Son of Man

This most fundamental of all Biblical truths must be firmly established at the outset for it shows the contrast between the Son of man and the man of sin:

The plan of redemption of the everlasting gospel is indeed “the good news of salvation.” Salvation from what? from the power of the following:

(1) Satan, the fallen Lucifer who became “the great dragon, the serpent of old, Satan, the devil, the master deceiver and enemy of God and man, who first caused the rebellion and fall of one-third of the angels in heaven in the first war against the law, kingdom, and authority of Jesus, the Creator Read more

And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4: 12, K.J.V.

The prophet Daniel refers to Jesus Christ only once as “the one saint” (margin, Palmoni).  In a literal translation of the first part of the verse 13 of Daniel chapter 8, just before introducing the 2300-day prophecy in verse 14, F. C. Gilbert, a converted Jew, in his book, Practical Lessons for the Church Today (1902, 1914), pp. 606-608, says:

“The Hebrew word, Palmoni, is a contracted word. It contains the elements of two Hebrew words. One isPele, and the other Man-na. The Hebrew word, Pele, means wonderful. See Isaiah 9: 6. The word Man-na, means numbered.  See Daniel 5: 25, 26. So this contracted word Palmoni, literally means Wonderful Numberer. This Wonderful Numberer is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.  See Isaiah 9: 6.”   Read more

SUMMARY OF NUMBER TWO IN THE BIBLE – Part IX

“Can two walk together unless they be agreed?” (Amos: 3: 3)? Yes, but such a  relationship is forced and coerced rather than forged by every reason other than mutual love, respect, understanding, subscribing to the same Biblical principles that shape their individual priorities, values, choices, and decisions in life. It is based on temporary convenience, self-serving advantages, thus, purely of outward appearance. Such a relationship will never bear the genuine fruits of the Spirit defined in Galatians 5: 22, 23, as God designed it to be—whether in a marriage relationship or church relationship.  Such a life journey is a lonely, even nightmarish walk through a dark jungle. In summary, certainly not limited to the examples cited in these series but by time and space, we highlight the significance of number two in the Bible as stated at the outset, with the following: Read more

After three days and a half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. Revelation 11: 10, K.J.V.

The historian George Storrs, quoted in Daniel and the Revelation, Uriah Smith, says that:

“But ‘the triumphing of the wicked is short;’ so was it in France, for their war on the Bible and Christianity had well-nigh swallowed them all up.  The set out to destroy Christ’s ‘two witnesses,’ but they filled Franc with blood and horror, so that they were horror-struck at the result of their wicked deeds, and were glad to remove their impious hands from the Bible.’ – Midnight Cry, May 14, 1843, Vol. IX, Nos. 5, 6, p. 47.   Read more

PERVERSION OF LIBERTY AND REASON – Part VII

First this: The New York Times reports that recent studies show that the percentage of Protestant Americans is in steep decline:

“For the first times since researchers began tracking the religious identity of Americans, fewer than half said they were Protestants, a steep decline from 40 years ago when Protestant churches claimed the loyalty of more than two-thirds of the population. A new study released . . . by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that it was not just liberal mainline Protestants, like Methodists and Episcopalians, who abandoned their faith, but also more conservative evangelical and ‘born again’ Protestants.

The losses were among white Protestants, but not among black or minority Protestants, the study found, based on surveys conducted this summer. When they leave, instead of switching churches, they join the growing ranks who do not identify with any religion. Nearly one in five Americans say they are atheist, agnostic, or ‘nothing in particular.’” www.nytimes/2012/10/10/us/study-finds-that-percentage of-protestant-americans-is declining. Read more
