TIME-SETTING AFTER 1844 HAVE, AND WILL FAIL IN PREDICTIONS (Continued)

Jesus said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power. Acts 1: 7, K.J.V.

“The times and seasons God has put into His own power. And why has not God given is this knowledge? —Because we would not make a right use of it if He did. A condition of things would result from this knowledge among our people that would greatly retard the work of God in preparing a people to stand in the great day to come . . . . Jesus told His disciples to ‘watch,’ but not for definite time. His followers are to be in the position of those who are listening to the orders of their Captain: they are to watch, wait, pray, and work, as they approach the coming of their Lord; but no one will be able to predict just when that time will come; for ‘of that day and hour knoweth no man.’ You will not be able to say that He will come in one, two, or five years, neither are you to put off His coming by stating that it may not be for ten or twenty years. . . . We are not to know the definite time either for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit [in the latter rain—a precious subject we discussed in a series not too long ago] or for the coming of the Lord.” – Ellen G. White, Evangelism, p. 221.

Get ready! Get ready! Get ready! “Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel! Amos 4: 12. Jesus said: “Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matt. 24: 44. Paul declared: “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly thatthe day of the Lord [the real ’Lord’s Day’—not Sunday!] so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as thief.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-4. Read more
