The Significance of Number Four and Forty in the Bible


Jesus Christ, mankind’s only Savior and Mediator, is a God of order. The gentle “Shepherd and Bishop of our souls” (1 Pet. 2: 25) knows and numbers His sheep who also “know His voice and follow Him” (John 10: 4, 7, 11, 27, K.J.V.)

He “makes all things beautiful in His time” (Eccl.3: 11). He is the One whom the gospel prophet prophesied: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever.
